The Way of Wisdom: A Study of James and Proverbs
Leader: Marla Hutchinson and Sherry DeJong
Day/Time: Friday 9:15-11:15am
Materials Needed: None- a study guide will be provided
Study Description:
The book of Proverbs is a part of the Old Testament, but called wisdom literature. It is believed that Solomon, who asked God for wisdom, is the author of Proverbs. James is
a New Testament book that addresses daily living which demonstrates faith. He details the hallmarks of a believers life that has been transformed. Surprisingly (or not!) much of both books covers the same content, with the idea that living according to God’s wisdom produces blessings, as opposed to the way of the “fool” that leads to harm. This study has been arranged topically, so that the randomness of Proverbs is aligned with the content of James. Join us as we examine God’s teaching on Wisdom that guides details of our day to day lives.
Suggested Preparation time: 20-30 minutes, 4 times per week

“Overcoming Fear and Discouragement” A study of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther by Kay Arthur
Leader: Marian Douce and Linda Spriegel
Day/Time: Fridays 9:15-11:15am
Materials Needed: the study book, Overcoming Fear and Discouragement, a notebook or loose-leaf binder/paper, colored pencils or pens
Study Description:
There is quite the cast of characters in the books of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther! There are good guys and bad guys, back-stabbing colleagues, secular kings carrying out God's plan, fellow "believers" who are not carrying out God's plan, good businessmen, murderous scoundrels, priests, an orphan who becomes a queen, and God. In the plots of these three books, there are slow-motion disasters and scary obstacles. We will learn from the practical examples of God's ordinary people how, with God's help, to face our own fears and discouragements. We have already completed the study of Ezra. For
the Winter Bible study, we will continue with our study of Nehemiah and Esther.
